Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover + Cinder Review

Raise your hand if you've ever judged a book without trying to read at least the first few pages. Come on, I'm sure I'm not the only one that judges books by the cover, or by the summary on the back! They always say to never judge a book by its cover, yet somehow we manage to still do it, even if we tell ourselves that we don't. A friend of mine gave me a stack of a few books she no longer wanted to keep a few weeks ago. Within that pile of paper and ink was "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer, a book I always said I would never read because I thought it was just another dystopian read. For years now, I've stayed a good distance away from dystopian stories. I think that may have to do with during my Sophomore year of High School in English class we spent the whole entire year reading novels like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, which were very good books I should add, but after a while, it got very repetitive and a bore. I should also add this was around the time that the Hunger Games trilogy (and first movie) were all the rage!

So, like I said, I've gotten over the whole futuristic world where the government is filled with propaganda plot line for a few years now... until now that is. The BookTube-A-Thon recently took place the other week and for the third time in a row, I made the choice to partake and I will add now that I failed miserably in reading a single book all that week because I suck at challenges, but anyway, I decided to pick up Cinder to put in my TBR. And that's how it happened. How Marissa Meyer sucked me into her world, in New Beijing where people could be half cyborgs and androids were a daily thing for society. It was a very thrilling and fast paced story, that I couldn't get enough of. I'm glad I took a chance on this book and read it, but I think I really should thank my friend for having no interest in the book anymore, or else I wouldn't have given a thought about it!

I've only done a handful of book reviews in the past and am still trying to get the hang of things** Review: I fell in love with Cinder within the first few pages of reading the first chapter and I think I fell even more in love with her little sidekick, Iko that happens to be an android. I've never read a book where people had robotic limbs which only fascinated me even more because come on, that sounds totally bad ass being part metal! I thought it very endearing that her younger stepsister, Peony wasn't at all like her original Cinderella step-sister counterpart. Her seeing Cinder as an actual human and not a machine was nice to see instead of her siding with her older sister and mother who loath everything about Cinder. As for the speed of the book, I was very pleased with how evenly paced the story line was, not once did I feel that the scenes dragged on. However, there were certain bits that I thought were too quickly written to where I wished there was more time to have it set in, but to keep this review spoiler free I won't go any further with the details. My other tiny complaint is that I did find parts to be very predictable but that didn't hinder my enjoyment of still reading Cinder's story. All in all, I really liked Meyer's writing style and Iko's android sass! I'm already itching to get my hands on the rest of the series!
